Unmissable scenery on Highway 1

By harleyufo | Mar 16, 2023

Highway NO.1 was rated as one of the 50 must-see attractions in a lifetime by National Geographic. US Highway 1 is worth running more than 10 times. The existence of this highway is to let people understand a truth: the destination is not so important sometimes; the scenery on the road will also make you linger!

Highway 1 winds from the north of San Francisco to the south until the south of Los Angeles, passing through the entire western coastline of California.

Different from the desolate and desolate "American Highway" in the impression, Highway 1 is a sunny road all the way to the sea. The small towns and national parks along the way make it more than just looking at the sea.

On one side is the vast expanse of blue Pacific Ocean, and on the other side is the steep and towering cliffs and mountains. The rocks stir up patches of white waves, which is the most classic landscape of Highway 1. In the early morning, the mist curls up, as if walking through the clouds. In the evening, watching the afterglow of the sunset on the sea sprinkled on the Pacific Ocean is the most pleasant!

American highways, as long as they are odd numbers, are north-south, and as long as they are even numbers, they are all east-west. From the west coastline to the east coastline, the highway numbers are from low to high, which is very neat.

Beautiful scenery and small towns worth your stop!

Half Moon Bay

On the coast of California, there are some small surfing towns dotted here and there. Among them, Half Moon Bay is famous for its excellent location near San Francisco and its quiet and laid-back atmosphere.

You can play golf on the edge of the cliff, have a picnic on the beach, surf at the famous Mavericks, or take a leisurely visit to a small local brewery!

Pigeon Point

An old lighthouse, which is the tallest lighthouse on the Pacific coast of the United States and is still in use today, and is free to visit. Every November, a lighting event is held here using kerosene lamps and lenses to light up. This is also the lighting method that people used more than 100 years ago. And this is really a place suitable for taking pictures.

Monterey

A small town with rich Californian Spanish and Mexican culture, beautiful scenery and friendly local people, it has become a typical Californian town. There are the famous Monterey Aquarium, 17mile and so on.

17 Mile Drive

This is a 17-mile private coastal trail that costs $10 (per vehicle), the only toll for the entire Highway 1 tour. This is a section of road along the curved peninsula, and it is also the most beautiful section of coastline on the west coast.

This is a leisure place for the super rich in the United States, where luxury houses and famous cars can be seen everywhere. There are also world-famous golf courses here, where high-quality golf games often start. If you have time, you can go to Carmel Town for another night. It is a beautiful town full of art.

Carmel-by-the-Sea

Although the town has a Bohemian flavor, although it has a history of less than a hundred years, it is famous for its elegant artistic atmosphere and unique natural beauty that have been accumulated for more than a hundred years, and is deeply favored by literati and artists.

Over the past century, the style of Carmel, with only more than 4,000 residents, still fully benefits from the care and maintenance of the town residents. Town residents resist modernization, refuse any advertisements, prohibit the installation of neon lights and meters, and put an end to fast food restaurants

Bixby Creek Bridge

The most photographed bridge on the West Coast. When it was completed in 1932, the bridge was the largest single-arch concrete bridge in the world. The bridge is 714 feet long. Until today, the bridge has been one of the most popular attractions for tourists. Because it is located on the scenic California coast, car commercials are often filmed here.

Big Sur

It is the most beautiful scenery on Kilometer 1 in California. Its tranquility, nature, freshness, otherworldly, and isolation are unique in the world, and it is a real paradise.

Big Sur is the most beautiful and unmissable section of Highway 1, the most unforgettable coast in the world, and it can also be said to be the climax of the early arrival of Highway 1. Stretching from Carmel to Hearst Castle, the Big Sur coast is about 90 miles long, with elephant seals, redwood forests, sea fog, no clear boundaries, and no urban core , it has a magical power that attracts tourists.

Piedras Blancas Elephant Seal Rookery

Walrus Beach is well worth a visit. From the viewing platform on the low cliff, you can see piles of walruses sunbathing on the beach. The scale is really spectacular and rare. Elephant seals are usually unconscious and sleep on the beach, as if they are the only ones on the beach, calm and worry-free.

Solvang

The buildings in the town are completely built in Danish style. The early residents set rules to maintain Danish traditions and reject American culture, so it is like a small Nordic town in a fairy tale world. Although there are only a few thousand residents and a few streets, more than one million tourists come here every year.

Santa Barbara

This Spanish-style town was named the best place in the United States for retirement. Tall palm trees are the hallmark of Santa Barbara. The beach of Santa Barbara is flat and open, known as "America's Blue Coast". The shadows of palm trees danced beside the road. Santa Barbara is a quiet and treasured place for the rich and celebrities to buy houses, and the house price is one of the highest in the United States.
